THE WAY OF THE MIRROR

reflections of a sinner

The Way of the Mirror is a contemplative guide that blends ancient wisdom with everyday practice — written not as doctrine, but as a reflection. It is a companion for daily use, offering meditations, practical mantras, and grounded exercises to help navigate the very real challenges of modern life.

This book speaks directly to the human experience — to the weight we carry, the dreams we chase, and the quiet ache for clarity beneath it all:

“Regret clings to the past – to moments that can no longer be changed. Anxiety reaches into the future – imagining outcomes that may never arrive.

The teachings within return the reader to the present moment, where awareness becomes a way of living rather than a concept. Drawing from Zen, Hermeticism, Taoist simplicity, and the stillness of everyday experience, the book offers a path that is both philosophical and deeply practical.

It does not promise ease, but it does illuminate the road:

“Whatever it is you seek – peace, purpose, awakening, or physical mastery – the path will ask something of you.”

Beyond its reflections, The Way of the Mirror serves as a practical guide — with mantras, meditations, and daily practices designed for real-world use. Whether facing worry, anger, fear, confusion, or simple restlessness, each page offers a way to return to yourself with honesty and courage.

And yet, the message remains compassionate and grounded:

“You are not betraying your dreams by doing what you must. You are shaping the container that one day will hold them.”

A book to return to whenever life grows loud or the self grows distant, The Way of the Mirror offers a gentle invitation:
to pause, to reflect, and to rediscover the clarity that has always been yours.

About the Author

JD du Plessis

JD du Plessis was born in 1968 in Robertson and grew up in the Boland, completing his schooling in Worcester before studying film. He spent several years working in the South African film industry before backpacking through the United Kingdom, India, and the Middle East — a journey that shifted the course of his inner life.

It was in India, where he learned Vipassana meditation and encountered the deep spiritual current that runs through the heartbeat of the country, that something within him awakened. The experience revealed to him that truth is not singular, and that many paths point to the same horizon.

Upon returning to South Africa, JD worked in various corporate roles before stepping into entrepreneurship. Today, he runs an independent automotive workshop in Johannesburg, where his passion for people, service, and community forms the heart of his work.

JD is a devoted husband and proud father of two sons. His life has been shaped not only by teachers and texts, but by long conversations with close friends — fellow seekers who helped him question, refine, and deepen his understanding of reality. This book is, in many ways, a tribute to those friendships.

He does not claim to be a guru or spiritual teacher. He describes himself simply as an ordinary man trying to live honestly, stay awake to the moment, and make sense of the world with a curious and open heart. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, watching rugby, and playing golf.

The Way of the Mirror is his first published work, written as a companion for himself as much as for anyone else walking the path of awareness.
